What To Look For In A Dealer When Buying A Used Nissan

So you’ve done your homework and you decided that a Nissan car is right for you. You’re not the only one. Nissan is usually on the top of the list among many car buyers for their excellence: the Nissan Titan was nominated for Best North American Truck in 2004, the Nissan Pathfinder is one of the bestselling SUV’s in America today, and the Nissan Altima was the second best-selling car in 2011.

With that in mind, you might not be able to afford a new car, so a used car is in order. However, you never have a guarantee with a used car, and you might even buy a lemon if you’re not careful. That’s why it’s so important to find the right Nissan dealer when you’re buying a used car. Not sure where to start? Here are several tips to help you:

  • Look up review sites: Before the proliferation of review sites, it was much tougher for a buyer to know if he was walking onto a lot where he was going to get harangued. Review sites like Cars.com, Yelp and Autotrader.com have made finding the right dealer so much easier. One can easily search for reviews to make sure the dealer doesn’t have a history of selling lemons.
  • Research Kelley Blue Book values: This is another huge resource that you shouldn’t ignore when trying to find a car. When searching for Nissan dealers, it’s smart to see what their list price for an automobile is, as opposed to the actual value. If a car dealer is listing a car well above the Kelley Blue Book value, they are not looking out for their customers. This will also be a good point of negotiation if you know the value of the car.
  • Get a CarFax: When searching for Nissan cars throughout the country, you should consider getting a CarFax to know the history of vehicle that you like. This will let you know what service records the car has, and CarFax will also give you a valuation of the car, meaning whether or not it should be valued above or below the Kelley Blue Book number.
  • What about financing? This is another thing that you must consider. If you’re looking to finance a car, you should take into account how well the dealer is willing to work with you. An interest rate differential of a few percentages of a point could mean a lot over the course of an auto loan.
